Checking Your Current Firmware Version
Before you update your PSP firmware, it is important to check what version you are currently running. This can be done by going to the Settings menu, selecting System Settings, and then selecting System Information. The version number will be displayed on the screen. If you are running anything below version 6.61, it is recommended that you update to the latest firmware.
Downloading the PSP Firmware Update
In order to update your PSP firmware, you will need to download the update file from the PSP website. Once you have downloaded the file, you will need to save it to your computer. Once the file has been saved, you will need to connect your PSP to your computer via a USB cable. Once your PSP is connected, you will need to open the update file and follow the instructions on the screen.
Connecting Your PSP to Your Computer
First, you’ll need to connect your PSP to your computer using a USB cable. Once it’s connected, you’ll need to open up the PSP’s System Settings menu. To do this, go to the Settings menu on your PSP’s home screen, and then scroll down to the System Settings option.
Once you’re in the System Settings menu, scroll down to the System Information option and select it. On the next screen, you should see your PSP’s current firmware version listed under the System Software section.
If you see that your PSP’s firmware version is out of date, you’ll need to update it. To do this, select the Update option from the System Settings menu. On the next screen, you’ll have the option to update your PSP’s firmware via a USB connection or via a Wi-Fi connection.
If you choose to update your PSP’s firmware via a USB connection, you’ll need to connect your PSP to your computer using a USB cable. Once it’s connected, you’ll need to open up the PSP’s Update Utility. To do this, go to the Settings menu on your PSP’s home screen, and then scroll down to the Update Utility option.
Once you’re in the Update Utility, you’ll need to select the Update from Memory Stick option. On the next screen, you should see a list of available firmware updates. Select the latest firmware update from the list and press the X button to begin the update process.
Once the update process is complete, your PSP will restart and you’ll be running the latest firmware version.
Updating Your PSP Firmware
Assuming you are using a Windows computer, you will first need to download the latest PSP firmware from Sony’s website. Once downloaded, unzip the file and copy the “UPDATE” folder to the root directory of your PSP’s memory stick.
Next, open your PSP and go to the Settings menu. Scroll down to the System Settings option and select it. Then, scroll down to the System Information sub-option and select it. On the next screen, scroll down to the System Software field and check to see what the current version number is. If the number listed is lower than the one you downloaded, then you will need to proceed with the update.
To do so, go back to the Settings menu and this time scroll down to the System Update option. Select it and then select the “Update via Memory Stick” option. On the next screen, select the “Yes” option when asked if you want to perform the update. The PSP will then reboot and begin installing the new firmware. Once the process is complete, your PSP will be running the latest firmware.
